‘That Trimble is a Dangerous Man’: The Seminary Hospital’s Highest-Ranking Patient
From July to mid-August 1863, Confederate general Isaac Trimble received aid inside the Lutheran Seminary. The cantankerous 61-year-old division commander, who suffered a severe leg wound during Pickett’s Charge, had a checkered past—leading to U.S. Army security concerns, and Unionist captors and caretakers to refer to him as “fierce-looking,” “wicked,” and “a dangerous man.”
Join Codie Eash as he explores the military career, medical treatment, and legal proceedings involving the highest-ranking officer treated here after the Battle of Gettysburg.
